Who are we?
We are just like you. Parents who have decided to teach our children
at home. None of us teach the same way. None of us parent the same way.
That's OK, our common ground and what this group is about is supporting
each other through the sometimes trying times of homeschooling. Whether
you want
information, a place to feel "safe" in a sometimes judging world, your
children to meet other homeschooled children, or maybe just some much
needed adult conversation - we can provide it.
Even if you are only thinking of homeschooling, or curious about how we
do it - come and meet us, we don't bite --- often. ;-)
When & Where?
We are currently meeting on Fridays at Couch Park off of East 12th Street or in bad weather, University Heights Baptist Church youth building (on West Street between 4th and 5th). Please be sure to e-mail us or call so you can be definite where we're meeting that week.
What do we do?
Right now we are just moms (and dads) that meet for some adult
conversation while our children play. Sometimes we talk about
homeschooling, sometimes we don't. We welcome any questions or
respectful comments you may have on the subject of course!
We have moms/dads that have been homeschooling for years, ones that are
just getting started, and ones that still aren't sure what they are
going to do. We even have had a couple
of people with no desire to homeschool stop by and play - you are ALL
welcome. Occasionally we do bring curriculum to show around. We are
going to make an effort for a monthly field trip. But really, we aren't
super organized as a group. Our desire is that if you have a passion for
something, you will offer it to everyone. If you feel led to host a
holiday or craft party, a history lesson, or a dance class - do it! Feel
free to share your ideas and brainstorm with all of us. We're all about
unity and putting our talents and passions together for all to enjoy. Of
course, if you are in a busy season in your life, have no desire for
anything organized, or are just plain burned out - you are welcome to do
nothing at all. :-)
Trust me, most of us have been there!
